Error message on Widgets
I there, I am having a problem when trying to update my widgets. I get an error message of 'The response is not a valid JSON response'. I have tried all the recommended options and contacted Ionos who are hosting the site, but they cannot see what the problem is and suggested I reach out to you. On the Ionos tab in the site it shows a warning for Betheme, but it doesn't say why. I have used Betheme many many times and never had this issue. Please could you help as my client wants the site live. Thank you

Hello,
Please check the following article and follow the tips from there.

If none of them help, please contact your hosting provider and ask them to allow all the rules that ModSecurity blocks incorrectly.
Thanks
I have tried the tips and it didn't work. I have checked with Ionos and they have said that all the rules that ModSecurity blocks are all open. There is clearly a compatibility issue with the theme and the php. Could you please advise urgently as I desperately need to get this site live. Many thanks in advance.
If you still encounter issues, please send us the WordPress dashboard and FTP access privately thru the contact form, which is on the right side at [Links visible only for registered users] and we will check what might be the reason.

Thank you. I have contacted you directly as above.
Is this a bug? And a work-around to save the widget nevertheless
I don't want to intrude into someone else's thread, but I have the same problem and found several mentions through out the years from people experiencing the exact same thing.
Is this Betheme related? I.e. what did you guys find out to solve this?
FWIW: I also tried everything I could think of, disabled all plugins, changed from child to betheme's main theme, etc.
But ..... I also tried doing the correction I wanted for a widget directly through PHPMyAdmin (was only an email address I needed to change) .... and after that, the complete widgets section was gone ... very strange imo.
Work-around for those pulling their hairs out ;-)
I did find a way to get the widget modification saved in the end though: by modifying and saving the widget through the customizer function of Wordpress.
So you open a page on the website and in the topnavigation admin menu from Wordpress, select Customizer and there you'll see the widgets and through that you are able to modify and save them without a problem.
But at the moment you try doing this through backoffice->appearance -> widgets, you can't save.
p.s. the suggested tips URL [Links visible only for registered users] is down.
My 2 cents 😉
