Hi, when you edit menu items, you should have Background Image URL field where you can add link for background. Just look at http://themes.muffingroup.com/betheme/documentation/doc-images/menu-edition.png

Hi, on our page, it's highlighted because the post for which you have link was added into menu under Appearance > Menus section. So if you want to highlight Blog item when you read posts, you must add posts to menu as well.
