It was the child theme causing the problem - interestingly I hadn't made any changes to the child theme at all. Perhaps this is something that needs to be notified with the update to v27... Thank you

Sorry, to modify the last statement, if I use the Betheme page editor rather than the gutenburg block editor it works! Is there a way to make it work in both editors or will this be as good as it gets?
