Ajax on input change not working on Filter Form Element

My page is design with the following layout:

Portolio element at the right of the page

Active filters element over the portfolio element

Filter form at the left side of the page with 2 items: 1 input item and 1 radio item to filter by category

The filtering is working only by pressing the submit button. When selecting the radio item (Categories) the page does not submit or filter automatically. The submit on change is a must since the user is getting confused as he/she expects the filter to occur immediately after checking the category.
