Please, turn off all of the plugins, refresh your cache, and check if the problem persists.
Moreover, if you use a child theme, switch to parent, and recheck it.

The problem is one of the plugins you use.
I had to disable all plugins except Force Regenerate Thumbnails, use it to regenerate thumbnails.
If this will happen again for you, turn off your plugins one by one, regenerate thumbnails each time, and see which plugin causes it. After, you should contact this plugin author.
