Muffin Builder items or Page Options can not be saved [max_input_vars]?

If you are unable to save Muffin Builder items or Page options anymore, it means the problem is max_input_vars variable on server side. By default, on many servers, the value of this variable is set to 1000. This is enough for users who do not build pages with large amount of content. But if you are planning to create larger pages, we recommend to increase this variable to 10000. This variable can be increased under .htaccess file with additonal line:

php_value max_input_vars 10000

There is also another solution you can try as it works in some cases as well. Under public_html/ folder on FTP, create .user.ini file with below content:

max_input_vars = 10000;

However, if any of above solutions won't help, then you must contact with server administrator because it means that only admin is able to increase this variable.

Hi, I got this problem, and asked the hosting admin to change the max_input_vars to 10000 (the php.ini), and we checked the phpinfo.php, it showed already is 10000 now:

max_input_vars

10000

However, I still have the same problem, when I add more items in the Page Option, it won't save or update.

Is there any way to fix that?

@hoyinli If it does not work, then we have no idea what else could be the reason. Your provider must increase probably all variables responsible for saving posts into database.

I am getting this also and as the site is on a shared box the server hosts say they will not do this. Any other options?

@shineinternet Yes, the option is to change the hosting provider because current one is really poor if are unable to increase such variable.

How to i do this on Hostgator? I am on the Cpanel and have accessed the FileManager, But i cannot find my WP installation ROOT? CONFUSED.COM HERE! HEEEELLPPP!!!

i have the same problem here. i added this line in my .htaccess file on the very bottom. uploadet it and uploadet also a php testfile.php
<html>
<head>
<title>PHP-Test</title>
</head>
<body>
<?php phpinfo(); ?>
</body>
</html>
but the testfile.php still shows the wrong value. so did i something wrong? do i have to restart any webservices or so?

@sheikhbros Because we are not server experts, we don't know where but for sure can not be done from cPanel. This must be changed deeper (on linux side). To sort it, you need to contact with your admin.

@muffinvernichtungswaffel You need to contact with your admin then because limits are on server side and changing files won't change anything.

I did this fix when the problem occurred and it worked great. Recently we moved to a new server machine and the variables were reset to default, so my page was missing half the content with the move. I increased the setting to 10000 and it has no effect. I understand the code may be lost, but I am unable to create new content and save still with the variables increased. Any suggestions?

@eenable The content does not lost. Please check Appearance > System Status if max_input_vars has been increased for sure.

System Status tells me its 10000 highlighted in green. Yet when I try add something to the page (I duplicate a section) and save, it saves only part of the cloned content like it's maxed out. How is this possible?

are you sure, I have to change the master value? That is not possible with .htaccess

are you sure that I have to change the master value? .htaccess does not have any influence on the master value.

I've also installed the simple system status plugin, it also shows that max input vars is 10000

We figured it out, and for your records here's how we fixed it. Our new
host machine ran a newer version of PHP which contains a module called suhosin.

I had to add three lines to the end of the php.ini file and I can now save again.

[suhosin]

suhosin.post.max_vars = 10000

suhosin.request.max_vars = 10000

then you have to edit your guide, the htaccess file overrides only the local value and it does not help

@andrei-ideahead If you would like to know what is included into support, we suggest to read Item Support Policy because server configurations are definitely not included. Howe can we know if you have suhosin extension installed? Please understand that we are not server experts and we had no idea about this extension which exists on maybe 1% of hosting services.

@Hk096j You need to contact with your admin then because the limits must be deeper and need be increased by your admin only.
